A group of employees and Directors from Manchester-based Kingsland Wines & Spirits and Legacy Wines, will trek the Great Wall of China in April this year, to help raise vital funds for UK charity Brain Tumour Research.

Beginning on the 19th April, the team will endure a gruelling five day expedition, trekking over seven hours a day and walking a total distance of over 50km whilst visiting some of the most remote parts of the Great Wall.

The total trip cost has been funded by the Irlam-based company and the individual participants, meaning that all donations go to the charity and they aim to raise a minimum of £30,000 in total.

Why the Event, Why Brain Tumour Research?

“Two years ago, one of our Senior Managers experienced this first hand when his nine year old daughter was diagnosed with a particularly aggressive malignant tumour.  Abigail unfortunately lost her battle and passed away very recently; this is why we have come together as a group to complete this event.”

Brain Tumour Research is a vastly underfunded and often overlooked charity, only receiving less than one per cent of National Cancer Research expenditure. Shockingly, in the UK more children and people under 40 die of a brain tumour than any other cancer and over 16,000 people are diagnosed every year.

Andy Sagar, Managing Director at Kingsland Wines & Spirits, said: “We want to take on this challenge as the charity is of personal significance to the company. We are focused and committed to the challenge ahead and hope that, with local and trade support, we can reach and possibly exceed our £30,000 target. We also hope that the staff involved can realise some personal goals along the way. All donations will be gratefully received and used to increase awareness and funding for this fantastic charity.”
